Mornings and Evenings

I had to do a little research on Charles Spurgeon, the person, in order to completely benefit from this book.  He evidently was a "funny" guy. Well, it is said that "his wit was abundant as his wisdom".  

There is a tender story of an occassion the exhausted Spurgeon, fell asleep and began "sleep" rehearsing his message.  His wife realizing that he would not have the time to finish took "notes" by repeating over and over what he was saying and prayed that it would be just what he needed.  It was! 

It is said that you can learn a lot about someone from the company they keep.  I liked Spurgeon even more when I read that he was friends with James Hudson Taylor the founder of China Inland Mission. He supported cross-cultural evangelism.  *trivia* These men promoted the "Wordless Book" which is a teaching tool that uses colors to teach the gospel.  For example the white page would refer to Psalm 51:7: "Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."  

Mornings and Evenings by Charles Spurgeon is a devotional guide with a one or two year read through the Bible.   If you would like to follow along and read his sermons online they can be find at AnswersInGenesis.org. 

This is not meant to be a "fast food" run through the Word, rather Spurgeon cheers the reader on to prayer, faith and deep study in each daily 5 minute "sermon".  I noticed that March and April are very time appropriate to meditate on the passion of Christ and celebration of the resurrection! I am still reading...pondering...reading...and will be for a while :). Mornings and Evenings truly is a treasury "full".
