my MOUNTAIN

In the midst of mountains of not just "laundry"...mountains of "stuff"...mountains of "cleaning"...mountains of trying to figure out how to consistantly discipline, teach...mountains of "emotion"...THIS really spoke to me. In a Major, MOUNTAIN BIG way. "Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which CANNOT BE SHAKEN, but ENDURES forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem (I'm thinking of the beautiful, towering, Andes mountains) so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore." AWESOME, right? Ok, so then in our study Beth takes us to Psalm 29:6-7 "When I FELT secure, I said, I will never be shaken. O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed." OH MY GOODNESS. Yes, Lord when I "feel" like you are blessing me, well, then I feel safe, secure...NO, security is not at all IN the blessing, or what we "feel" but in God HIMSELF. So, if God is around us, what's with the trouble? We looked up Psalm 34:17-19 "A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all..." she says..."God never promised to remove us from human experience, but for those of us who call Jesus Savior, the only difficulty we experience will be right here." Did you read THAT in 34? The Lord "hears"...he "delivers" (the righteous) from ALL their troubles...is "close" to the brokenhearted..."saves" those crushed in spirit. FAITH. RELATIONSHIP. The LORD is my "mountain" that is STRONG...NOT MOVING...SECURE...and in Him alone I am safe. (I googled Andes Mt. pics for this post to remind us how HUGE and beautiful they are...but borrowed this one of the view from "above" instead. Rodney and I got to "clearly" experience the Andes mountains one flight...in ALL of their glory, at 28,000 feet and the "glorious" part was that they were sticking out far above the clouds. This picture kind of reminded me of that. Also, that while we are down here just looking up... God has a "better" and "bigger" and "higher" view of our circumstances :).

  1. Can I share some of your thoughts expressed here the next time I am in charge of staff devotions? Every morning when I go over to school, my eyes are drawn to the Tunari range of the Andes Mountain and I reflect on how powerful and incredible is our Creator God.

Thanks for your reflections from your study.
