quack quack quack...it's all in how you define "bridges"

did you know...
that these land and water "ducks" were used during world war II?  if two were positioned opposite one another, long planks could be layed on top to form a temporary bridge for vehicles to pass over. strong stuff.

quack quack quack
...that Pittsburgh comes in as #1 city of bridges (within city limits) 446...which is 3 more than Venice, Italy. However, most of the bridges of Venice are for "people" crossing only :). Does it really matter which city has the most bridges? No, because we enjoy best the unique beauty of those crossing the Pittsburgh 3 rivers :).

The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP in the pic above) rail-trail offers 135 miles of hiking and biking between Cumberland, MD, and Duquesne, PA, near Pittsburgh. In Cumberland, the GAP joins the C&O Canal Towpath, creating a continuous trail experience, 320 miles long, to Washington, DC.

The final few miles from Duquesne to Pittsburgh are still under construction.
