Jonah was a jerk.

I enjoy the book of Jonah.  I think he was a jerk.  I love that when all the sailors are freaking he tells them, it's me.  My fault.  I worship the God who made this storm.  Throw me in.  I love that the Lord PROVIDED.  In a very disgusting and gross way.  Ew. I love that Jonah "remembered" the Lord and wrote a song while floating in the middle of yucky, stinky fish guts.  I love that the Lord heard him.  I love that the Lord had compassion on the wicked and the "jerk".  OH. MY. Gosh. (bad habit. i mean goodness. or just OH. MY.)  I love that the Lord made a vine grow for the purpose of easing Jonah's discomfort!  And then let a worm chew it away.  That stinks.  I would have been upset.  discouraged.  Good grief.  Talk about a real life word picture.  the Lord said..."you have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow...but Ninevah has more than 120,000 who cannot tell their right hand from their left...should I not be more concerned about that city?"...and Jonah responded...???  speaks to real life me about my real life "littles" in the greater "bigs" of what God is doing.  I don't want to be a jerk.

  1. this has nothing to do with anything. was just reading and noticed...that jonah "jerk" was pretty up and down in how he felt toward the Lord. maybe i relate. it doesn't seem like the Lord gave up on him.
